Two neighbors stop for a conversation "over the
fence." The building in the background is an
"outhouse" (outdoor toilet). Like the houses,
outhouses were also duplex with only a thin wooden wall separating the
facilities for each family. Old Sears catalogues often
substituted for toilet tissue. A weak bladder in below zero weather
could have been a real inconvenience! |
